This year we hung a hummingbird feeder in our yard for the first time. We hung it late April, presumably in plenty of time to attract any hummingbirds that might have scouted our neighborhood for suitable nesting and feeding resources. As of August 1st it’s still up, but we have not observed any hummingbirds.

We have anecdotal evidence that hummingbirds visit the neighborhood, so we’ll try again next year. I’ve planted a bee balm plant near where our feeder is hung in hopes of giving hummingbirds more reasons to visit our backyard.
