One of my favorite writers is Wendell Berry. I say that with a bit of caution because the word favorite implies that everything I’ve read that he’s written has been enjoyable to read. It hasn’t. Wendell Berry is a prophet. I have not read much of his poetry, but I’ve read almost as many individual fiction and non-fiction books written by Wendell Berry as by Charles Dickens.
Even his novels have a prophetic tone, using the failed practices and lives of his characters to condemn poor land use practices and other sins that surface in much of his writing.
Anyway, Happy Birthday, Mr. Berry!
